No matter what anyone has to say about the trends or the fashion, the 80s was one incredible decade when it came to good music. Who could forget the likes of White Snake, Twisted Sister or even Europe? The fact that you can still hear these songs on the radio and in commercials over thirty years later truly says something and here you will find a list of the 5 greatest hair band ballads.

1. Poison – “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”
Forget about going bankrupt, undergoing debt counseling or losing your job. This ballad puts it all into perspective with a rather sour take on love gone bad.

2. Warrant – “Heaven”
A passionate and soulful proclamation of love that resonates in the hearts of anyone who actually has one. It was the defining gem in the repertoire of the band called Warrant.

3. Cinderella – “Nobody’s Fool”
Elements of the dark and sinister combine into a beautiful union.

4. Def Leppard – “Love Bites”
Underrated member Phil Collen is the real star of this piece with is incredible guitar skills.

5. Motley Crue – “Home Sweet Home”
Don’t be confused by the piano intro, this ballad is bold and powerful when it picks up.

The 80′s were good to us. If you are young enough to remember the “me generation” then these tunes will send you down memory lane. Back in the 80′s we had lots of loves and plenty of love songs like Careless Whisper by George Michael. A huge radio hit, Endless Love, with Diana Ross and Lionel Richie was a snuggling road trip favorite. Remember the steamy movie with this name, Against All Odds by Phil Collins? Your hair crunched as you sang along with Lost In Love by Air Supply. The whole story can be found at http://www.spinner.com/2011/05/20/marvin-gaye-whats-goin-on-40-years/ Maybe the best of the 80′s, however, before bad Kenny Rogers parodies was Lady. If you were a Foreigner fan than you will probably mouth the words to Waiting For A Girl Like You. In a category all by itself, Sexual Healing is still an amazing tune by Marvin Gaye. Even Greatest Love Of All by Whitney Houston is an amazing classic as long as you never saw her show on cable. Stevie Wonder stole our hearts with I Just Called To Say I Love You. Love in the 80′s included a mix of rock and angst in our souls with radio’s, Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler.

Isn’t it peculiar the way style changes over the generations? Since the 80′s there has been more than 30 years worth of pop culture and music constantly revamping and evolving into something more updated and hip with the times. Most of us aren’t in to the same fashions or attitudes that we once were, but when we look back and see ourselves and our friends as we were we can’t help but smirk at the outstanding statements which we were so willing to make authentic models of ourselves. Get more information here. And then, flipping on an old record (which some of us still do hold dear) we can sink right back down into our old songs and totally let go, saying, “yes! This is totally what my generation was all about.” The hair, the metal, the leather, and the attitude that was so adamant about the style; each backed the other up. And the concerts, local and national, that made the heart pump with rhythm and our adrenaline rush run our bodies until we were drunk with our own youth.
So don’t hesitate! Find your favorite old-time album and don’t hold back the thrashing until you feel that maddening sensation of growing generations!

Def Leppard’s ”Hysteria”or should I say Hairsteria, Ratt’s ”Round And Round”, and Bon jovi’s ”You Give Love A Bad Name”, are just a few of the glamor bands and hit’s of the last 2 decades that made us giggle and wiggle, also leaving behind a legacy of cheesy hairstyles and a draft of dandrif and the fading scent of cheap hair spray. The dazzling guitar riffs exhibited by bands of the 80′s made up for their lack of cosmetic wisdom, but it was all in good fun right? unfortunately, hair do’s can be costly and painful, an estimated 3.5 billion dollars was spent between the years 1980 and 1986, no coincidence that most of our favorite metal bands formed in that quirky period! Although their music maybe timeless, their hairstyles certainly were’nt, considering that cheap hair spray is still holding Jon Bon Jovi’s crue cut, but I highly doubt that…The 1980′s was puffed with hair experiments gone wrong, pink Mullets, Green Mohawks, David Bowey’s Red whatever that was! with all do respect of course. We can’t talk about hair Metal bands without fixing our attention on Hairspray.

Hairspray, Sticky Water, Spritz, or the more civilized? hair laqcuer, is a well known cosmetic product which is sprayed onto hair to keep stiff, shape or hold a prefered style in place. The spray can be dispensed from a bottle or aerosol can. hair spray was first manufactured in the 1940′s in Broadview, illinois. One of the polymers used is called polyvinylpyrolidone, say that 3 times fast! this polymer is also used to glue the layers of wood and plywood together, was’nt enough to keep most of the short lived bands of the 80′s together, chuckle. But as I said before, the glitz, the glam, the hair, the music was all in good fun, lets just pray for no more hairspray!

The hard rock music of the 1980s and early 1990s may not have yet enjoyed the resurgences of disco, funk, blues, jazz and other rock idioms, but is nonetheless a beloved and fondly-remembered genre of music celebrating good times, easy living and that crucial feature of American life: partying. The hair-bands of this era wrote and performed music without the self-loathing and misery so inherent to all subsequent guitar-driven music, and promoted positivity and fun above all else.

Any lover of this era of music knows that is nearly impossible to turn any Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderella or Extreme album up to eleven on the volume knob and not have a great time listening and reminiscing. Hard rocking, guitar-driven and featuring absolute masters of the electric guitar, any party suffering from a lack of excitement or just plain good times can benefit from cranking these sometimes-forgotten performers past the levels of comfort to the ears.

Bon Jovi and Winger often get a bad rap when it comes to bands of this era, but careful listening reveals a great ear for writing memorable melodies, pulsing beats and feature amazing guitar pyrotechnics often lacking in today’s morbid, no-fun music. Check out big hair bands again today, and get any party started on the right foot with ease.
